Test of Sunny Coasters

I tried this pattern out before I made them for someone else. I like how easy the pattern was and how quick it worked up!

Quickie Summertime Headband

I got the idea for this style of headband from Crochet Monkey's Patterns.

I altered the pattern slightly, but since it wasn't my idea and looks exactly like hers, I cannot take credit for it. But here are my directions:

Ch 80.

Sc into first ch in row. Sc in next 9.

Ch 70. Sc into first ch in row. Sc in next 9.

Ch 70. Sc into first ch in row. Fasten off and weave in ends.

You can choose to add a row or two more if you want.

My Recycled Bag©

Thank you to everyone who has saved and brought me their plastic bags. I have sooo many, I will be able to make a couple different colored ones.

I have now completed my own pattern for the recycled grocery bag. Or what I should say is that I have completed the bag. The pattern is not written out very well yet. I did my best. I wanted something with a tight weave, that would lay flat in the car when not in use and be continuously crocheted. Here is a diagram of how I made the bag:

My Recycled Bag

I used an M Hook for this project.

I used "plarn". It can be any color (tutorial to make "plarn" is here: Marlo's Crochet Corner).

For my bag, I made 45 sc across. The entire piece was done in single crochet to get a tight weave.

Once the height of the bag is reached, sc 30, ch 1, turn. Repeat until bottom of bag is desired size.

Then ch (I think) 13 st, ch 1 more, turn. Sc rows until this side is the same as the first.

To put the bag together, you will only have two sides (and sides on the bottom) to hook together.

Add your desired handles.

Go shopping and enjoy.

Note: I have only made one bag with this pattern and didn't write it all down like I should have. So, my directions might be a little murky. If you make this and have any problems, please contact me. I plan to make another one to test it out and clarify the directions, but until that time, it is as clear as it is going to get right now!! I guess you could still call it a work in progress.

This is for my April 2009 partner Kim, and now that she let me know she received it, I can post a picture of what I sent!

Hi-Five Dishtowel

I like the Knit One Crochet Too Recycled Cotton yarn for this project. It is not too heavy for a "dishtowel".
I also like the summer colors.
This color is Valencia.
The pattern for this dishtowel is here.
I used an F hook.

I received a wonderful package from my April partner, Kim:

She also sent a lovely letter about her family, they sound great! I love it all! Thanks!

March 2009 Crochetlist Dishcloth Exchange

Received this from my Partner for March, Robin. She also sent a nice letter telling me about her family. They sound wonderful!

My furbabies sniffed it for quite awhile, but eventually approved.

Even though this is a dishcloth exchange, it matches my bathroom better than my kitchen, which is fine. I can always use a nice facecloth too!!

Thank you so much Robin!

Masa Bag

I saw this pattern and am using Paton's Pebbles in Moonstone and Sandstone and an N hook.

The pattern is here and the instructions for folding the bag is here.

Remember the instant gratification thing? Yeah. It was a quick project. After I figured out the folding part I was excited to put it together.

New Yarn

I have been checking out French Creek Fiber Arts for some time now. I went online to get the address, phone number and directions. I saw and joined the Ravelry group for the store. But I had yet to GET there.

I decided today with my husbands help: "well you aren't DOING anything during the day, so you should go then".

And I was promising myself all the way there I was just going to LOOK and FEEL things.

Once I got through all the construction, seeing the sign for the store and having to travel down the road and turn around and go through the construction traffic again, I decided that I was probably going to purchase something.

And I did.I got two skeins of 2nd Time Cotton in the colorway Valencia:

The tag says: "2nd Time Cotton is created from new textile waste originating in the apparel and textile industry. Our 8-ply yarn is spun from this recycled cotton contributing to the conservation and global re-utilization of products."

I really like the spring/summer color and that it is recycled from other products and that it is made in the USA.

I met the official greeter: Bordi (sp?) A very friendly black kitty. (I think he was jealous that I was petting the yarns and not him!)

And before I left she also wound both skeins into balls for me. Very Cool! I will definitely be visiting again!

Granny Square Dishcloth and Tea

Sent this to my partner for the March 2009 exchange:

She likes burgandy and I have never seen cotton yarn for dishcloths in burgandy. Since funds are limited due to me not working right now I had to find something to match burgandy.
I also added some tea. I love tea. I wanted to share it with someone!

Crochet Kitty Cozy #2

Here is the finished Kitty Cozy according to the pattern instructions. I am adding a few more rows to the sides (so my fur baby will climb in it).

These are another couple pictures ... she knew this item was for her.

Crochet Kitty Cozy

So, do you remember two posts ago where I said I was starting a recycled bag pattern? It is still on hold.

And do you remember how I said I wanted to finish the Voodoo Rug that is in progress? It is on hold too.

One reason is that I wrote up and posted the Soap Pocket pattern. But that is done. So what is the other excuse?

Well, I like to do small projects. Things that don't take forever to complete. I need instant gratification. And cutting up all those bags and rolling them up just doesn't sound appealing right now.

So, even though this next project is not really "small" ~more like "medium"~ I want to do it.

This is the pattern: Crochet Kitty Cozy.

I have a bed for my kitty now. But she doesn't sleep in it. But she always wants to curl up in my crocheting stuff. So I figured, if I make her something she will probably lay in it. She always likes to climb into EVERYTHING. I will probably make the sides a little higher since she likes that.

Here are a couple of pictures of my pretty prissy princess.

Soap Pockets©

Here is my version!

H hook
Worsted weight cotton yarn (here I used Peaches & Cream Potpourri)

Chain 26.

Row 1: sk 1st ch, sc across (25 st).

Row 2: ch 1, sc in each front loop across, turn (25 st).

Row 3-22: Repeat row 2.

Finish off.

Sc around 2 sides to make a pocket. When you reach the end of the second side, ch approximately 65-70 st, depending on how long you want the loop to be. Leave a long tail to pick up at the end.

Weave the ch through the open spaces of the top row that is open. attach the ch row to the corner of the pocket. Fasten off.

To use, put soap in the pocket and pull the opening closed.

Here is the dishcloth I received for February 2009. I am afraid to use it! I did have to put it up though, my dog seems to think it belongs to him! Thank you Theresa!

Update to Fan Edged Armwarmers

Ok, so I have been working on making the Fan Edged Armwarmers to go with the hat. I have been working out the pattern...and working...and working.

I made one, then the other, but messed up on the second one. Short by a dc row. So I have to undo it. Which means I can test the pattern a third time to be sure it is what I want.

Fan Edged Lavender Hat

Here's the lavender version of the Fan Edged Hat. Worked the same way as the blue heather. This was the "test" pattern once I had it written up.

Enjoy!

And my next post will (hopefully) be a pattern written up for armwarmers to match this hat.
